The University of Iowa College of Engineering and its Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering have received $149,000 from the Asphalt Paving Association of Iowa (APAI).

The funding will be used for acquiring testing equipment for the asphalt laboratory in the Laboratory for Advanced Construction Technology (http://www.lactiowa.org/).

Presenting the funding to the college and the department February 23 were APAI executive vice President Bill Rosener; and the major donor, Chuck Finnegan, of LL Pelling Co.

Ashkan Bozorgzad, PhD student, and Hosin (David) Lee, professor of civil and environment engineering, showcase some of the current equipment in the Laboratory for Advanced Construction Technology.

The laboratory was established with support from the Korea Institute of Construction Technology (KICT), Asphalt Paving Association in Iowa (APAI), and other private companies to help member institutes and companies develop and implement their innovative new construction technologies in practice by performing objective laboratory testing and field evaluation.

The laboratory focuses its research efforts on warm mix asphalt, asphalt pavement recycling, and crumb rubber asphalt.
