Graduate Student Alumni Mentoring Program

What is the CBE Graduate Student Alumni Mentoring Program?

The mentoring program seeks to connect past and current graduate students to help transition CBE students to a successful professional career outside of academia (including both industry and government sectors). Mentors and mentees are paired based on mentor expertise and student interests and goals.  This will provide mentees an opportunity to interact with chemical engineering professionals and gain insight into the working world ahead.  The program gives mentors a chance to give back to their alma mater by making a critical contribution to the department.

For more information on the program including the 2021 – 2022 program calendar, please see the Graduate Student Alumni Mentoring Program Handbook.

What are the program benefits?

Current graduate students will enhance their career readiness skills, including resume and cover letter development, job search process, interviewing, professional communication, etc. via their relationship with someone who has successfully made the transition from graduate school to industry/government.  Mentees will also learn about the chemical engineering workplace, potential career paths and how to increase their employment marketability as well as other aspects of professional life.

Mentors can make an impact on aspiring CBE graduate students by sharing their real world experiences (the job search process, chemical engineering career, etc.). This benefits not only the students but also is a great way to support the CBE department.  The mentorship program also is an opportunity for alumni to meet current students, stay connected with the department, broaden mentoring skills and expand their network.
